Anonymous said: do you think dumbledore was a good person?
I believe that Dumbledore was a manipulative, power obsessed old cod who didn’t give the people around him enough credit when it came to being able to handle the truth. I believe he groomed Harry into a willing sacrifice and that he used Snape’s guilt against him.
But I don’t think any of that should completely impugn his character because, ultimately, Dumbledore’s schemes all had one common goal: Voldemort’s demise. And the fruits of his labour were seen in the end. Snape played the part Dumbledore created for him well, even up until his own death, and Harry did indeed face Voldemort willingly, creating a protective barrier between the Dark Lord and everyone else, the way Lily had done for Harry on the night that she died. And I firmly firmly firmly believe that, if Dumbledore did not believe Harry could survive the ordeal, that if he had not been confident in his theory about Harry and Voldemort’s blood bond tethering the boy to life, he would have found another way. He cared for the boy too much to treat him as merely a throwaway from The Greater Good. I will never budge from that belief.
So to answer your question: Dumbledore was too complex, too brilliant to be labeled as simply good or simply bad, and that is why he’s one of my favourites in the series and while I’ll always mourn him.
